- In 2018, Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalize cannabis for medical use and research. The Narcotic Act of 1979 was amended in December 2018 to allow this change.
- Decriminalization and Partial Legalization:
- In June 2022, Thailand decriminalized cannabis by removing it from the Category 5 narcotics list. This change allowed individuals to grow and possess cannabis. However, public consumption and the sale of cannabis extracts containing more than 0.2% THC are still regulated.
- Regulations for Use and Sale:
