WHO THIS IS FOR

R&D, Manufacturing, or Product Development teams that are:

  • Developing new formulas with TBF oil for the first time
  • Evaluating TBF oil as a replacement for in-house cannabis terpenes
  • Evaluating TBF oil as a replacement for botanical or synthetic terpenes
  • Looking to update in-market TBF oil formulas with current market trends

REQUIRED MATERIALS

  • TBF cannabis essential oil
  • THCa crystals (99.9% pure)
  • Pulverizer machine
  • Beaker
  • Standard scale
  • Stainless steel dish
  • Stainless steel spatula
  • Storage containers (e.g., glass jars)
  • Personal protective equipment

FORMULATION INGREDIENTS

  • Cannabis essential oil
  • THCa crystals (powdered)

LAB EQUIPMENT

  • Pulverizer machine
  • Beaker
  • Standard scale
  • Stainless steel dish
  • Stainless steel spatula

FORMULATION STEPS

  1. Gather materials for formulation.
  2. Plan your essential oil incorporation rate: Consider incorporating a variety of essential oils and a handful of storage containers, as you may experiment with the incorporation amount.
  3. Determine the right amounts of each ingredient: At the minimum, cannabis essential oil should make up 10% of your final product. Be sure to follow your local/state dilution ratio regulations if applicable. For initial R&D, we recommend creating a final batch size of two grams to avoid wasting materials while you find your ideal flavor/aroma strength.
  4. Pulverize your THCa crystals: Use a pulverizer to break up the THCa crystals until they reach a powder consistency.
  5. Add THCa to beaker: Add the required amount of THCa to a 50ml beaker.
  6. Weigh out the required amount of cannabis essential oil: Move your THCa beaker to a scale to weigh and mix in the required amount of essential oil to reach your percentage goal.
  7. Mix the formulation: Once you weigh in the essential oil, use a small stainless steel spatula to thoroughly mix the formulation in a stainless steel dish. Mix until the consistency resembles a crumble.
  8. Transfer, seal and store: Transfer the formulation to a sealed container for storage. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  9. Record observations: During sample review, use a scoring rubric to record your observations.
